No. Cropping a PDF adjusts the mathematical coordinate boundaries (MediaBox and CropBox) of each page rather than converting the page to an image. All text remains selectable and razor-sharp.

Is content outside the cropped area permanently erased from the file binary?

In the PDF standard, setting the CropBox and MediaBox hides the trimmed margin from being displayed or printed in standard PDF viewers. However, because the underlying vector drawing commands still exist in the page stream, you should not rely on PDF cropping as a security redaction tool for confidential data.

Can I crop only one specific page in a multi-page PDF?
